PocketScan Security & Privacy

PocketScan — Privacy & Storage Policy

PocketScan is built with a Privacy-First architecture. Your privacy, documents, and scanned data belong entirely to you.

1. On-Device Processing

All document scanning, image filtering, cropping, rotation, PDF generation, and QR code scanning/generation are executed 100% locally on your device. PocketScan does not process user documents, photos, or QR code contents on any external cloud server.

2. Device Permissions

PocketScan requests only the minimal permissions necessary to function:

  • Camera (android.permission.CAMERA): Required to display the live viewfinder for scanning documents and reading QR codes. Camera frames are processed in memory on your device and are never recorded or transmitted.
  • Internet (android.permission.INTERNET): Required for Google Play Services to download the Google ML Kit document scanning model binary on demand when the app is installed or launched for the first time.

3. On-Demand ML Model Downloads

PocketScan utilizes official Google ML Kit APIs for document scanning and barcode detection. Upon initial setup, Google Play Services may download the necessary ML Kit model binary file over the internet from Google servers. Once downloaded and cached locally on your device, all subsequent document scanning and barcode processing operates completely offline. No user documents, photos, or scanned contents are ever transmitted during or after model downloads.

4. Document & Data Storage

  • Local PDF Storage: Scanned PDF documents are saved directly to your device's local application documents directory or a custom folder selected by you using the Android Storage Access Framework (SAF).
  • Local QR History: Scanned QR payloads and history items are stored locally on your device in local app storage.
  • File Access Control: You maintain total control over your files. You can open, share, export, or delete any scanned document or clear QR history at any time inside the app.

5. Zero Telemetry, Analytics, or Advertising

PocketScan contains:

  • NO Analytics SDKs (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics)
  • NO Crash Reporting SDKs (e.g., Crashlytics, Sentry)
  • NO Advertising Frameworks or Ad Identifiers
  • NO User Account Requirements or personal registration data

6. Data Sharing & Third-Party Disclosure

PocketScan does not collect, sell, rent, or share any personal information, document images, PDF files, or QR code data with any third party. Sharing of documents or QR images occurs strictly when you manually initiate a system share action to another application of your choice.

7. Data Deletion & Ownership

You can delete any document or clear your QR history directly within PocketScan at any time. Uninstalling the application will permanently remove all locally stored application data and history files from your device.
